Astoria West Artwork by Ted Feighan
"I wanted to create a visual world that my Monster Rally music lived in." – Ted Feighan
Both a musician and an artist, Ted Feighan naturally oozes cool and creativity. His expressive pursuits began in tandem in 2009 when he started developing his music project Monster Rally, which collages many different songs into new and innovative audio. Ted couldn't find a suitable visual language for his album artwork, so decided to experiment with paper collage as an interpretation of the sounds – an exploration that continues today. Cutting imagery from stacks of old books and magazines that he’s collected over the years, Ted assembles individual plants, animals, figures and objects into impossible yet familiar scenes of tropical flora and fauna, inspired by vintage travel posters and catalogs. The resulting exotic and intricate visuals adorn vinyl covers, posters, accessories, and other merchandise, while some are turned into animated projections that accompany his music shows at small venues and galleries – providing a multimedia experience for audiences.
Ted also creates original artworks, including the illustrations that embellish the posters, website and brochures for Astoria West. Starting with the property’s features and surroundings – like the pool area, beach, and green spaces – he has referenced and exaggerated these elements to produce collages that reflect the essence of the neighborhood in his signature style.
